Involved in a case of thefts of 4 billion CFA Francs to the Directorate General of Taxes (Day), the ex-director of the Dgi Carlos Adohouannon was deposed on Friday 18 September 2020 in the civil prison of Missérété. He was extradited by the Senegalese authorities to Benin on Thursday 17 September 2020 when he was arrested at Blaise Diagne airport in Dakar during a passport control.
ex-director of the Dgi Carlos Adohouannon has been spending sleepless nights in the civil prison of Missérété since last Friday. Deposited in this penitentiary place, he was charged in an alleged embezzlement case 4 billion CFA Francs at the Dgi. He was therefore placed under a warrant of deposit by the Court for the Suppression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (I shout) pending the official opening of his trial.
According to information reported by banouto, Carlos Adohouannon could face life imprisonment. Car, in accordance with the law 2011-20 of 12 October 2011 on the fight against corruption and other related offenses in the Republic of Benin, the article 45 provides in its last paragraph that : “When the amount of the thing diverted or dissipated is equal to or greater than one hundred million (100 000 000) of francs, the penalty of imprisonment shall be life imprisonment and a fine of at least one hundred million (100 000 000) francs".
Should we remind, it's been since september 2019 that Carlos Adohouannon is wanted by the Economic and Financial Brigade (Bef). While on mission in Ouidah on behalf of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (Mef), he would have taken the key to the fields. His vehicle was later found without a plate at the home of one of his relatives.. In this case of theft, several MEF officials were also listened to.
