Motor Vehicle Tax in Benin : Ban on paying at checkout level

It is recorded. In Benin, payment of Motor Vehicle Tax (TVM) is now prohibited at the fund level throughout the national territory. A decision taken by the Director General of Taxes Nicolas Yenoussi through memo n°4568/MEF/DC/SGM/DGI/CSE dated 5 December 2023.

“I ask you to instruct your employees to no longer accept any cash payment of TVM at their checkouts”, underlined the Director General of Taxes Nicolas Yenoussi.  Any payment, he adds, “of the TVM must now be made online, via the “tvm.impots.bj” platform”.

“For this purpose, you are invited to take all measures to raise awareness and support users who will go to your centers. I value strict and correct compliance with this instruction”, we read in the memo.

The “tvm.impots.bj” platform recalls the Nouvelle Tribune, is operational and reinforces “Mobile Tax” available on Playstore and the payment of TVM by mobile money launched on 13 January 2020. The objective has therefore not changed ; it is to make it easier for vehicle owners who are sometimes forced to travel a long distance before reaching a tax service to pay this tax.
