Training course in Mas Wrestling in Cotonou : Wolf Omnisport equips several young people with the discipline

A unique training in Mas Wrestling, organized by the Wolf Omnisport Academy, took place at Yerevan beach in Cotonou this Sunday,21 July 2024. This event marks the second attempt after a first internship in Bassila, in northern Benin.

More than thirty participants from different clubs in Cotonou came to discover and learn about a new, booming discipline.. This is Mas Wrestling, a form of wrestling between two opponents. She captivated the interest of part of Beninese youth. Participants were trained on the origin of the sport, her rules, its practice and development prospects.

A Togolese delegation, led by President Dermane Allassane, also attended the training. Their presence aimed to share their international experience in Mas Wrestling.

“It’s a sport just like football.. We must explore other horizons”, underlined Allassane. The Mas Wrestling, sport ancestral russe, is a bodybuilding fight measuring the strength of opponents.

During training, the participants benefited from a small practical competition allowing the organizers to assess the knowledge of the participants. This exercise made it possible to classify the participants into referees, table judges, athletes and announcers.

Hanane Yabara, general secretary of Wolf Omnisport Academie, said : “Our ambition is to grow this sport with the existence of a federation. »

Eunice Mensah, one of the participants, encouraged women to engage in this discipline : “Mas Wrestling is not a difficult sport. With passion and work, we can get there. I invite women to try. » Xavier Bamidele, a new enthusiast, added : “It’s an interesting game that develops endurance, competitive spirit and team spirit. »

The President of the Disciplinary Association of Nigeria Anthony OKOLIE concluded by saying that : “Mas Wrestling is a universal sport. We hope that the determination of the Beninese inspires other African countries. »

Managers at various levels as well as members are more committed than ever to playing this sport , a discipline that transcends all borders with the key to continued success unleashing passions like football.
