Sahara marocain : In support of autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty, Finland “considers the Autonomy Plan presented in 2007… as a good basis” for a final settlement

Finland considers the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as “a good base
for a solution” to the regional dispute around the Moroccan Sahara.
This position was expressed in the Joint Communiqué, published, this Tuesday, at
Helsinki, following the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, from
African cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, M. Nasser Bourita,
and the Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Elina Valtonen.
“Finland considers the autonomy plan presented in 2007 like a
serious and credible contribution to the political process led by the UN and as
a good basis for a solution agreed by the parties”, continues the press release,
reiterating Finland’s support for “political process aimed at achieving
just political solution, sustainable and mutually acceptable”.
In this press release, the two ministers also expressed their position
common regarding the exclusive role of the United Nations in the political process,
reaffirming their support for the UN Security Council resolutions and support
of their respective countries to the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General
United Nations, aimed at moving this process forward.
Finland's new position is part of the dynamic of support
international to the sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara and to the Autonomy Plan,
under Moroccan sovereignty, carried by many countries, under the impulse of
His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God help him, during these last
years.
