 Repression of sexual harassment in Benin: Ong Alcrer calls on professional women

Ong Alcrer proceeded, mardi 17 November 2020, the launch of the activities of the "Project to strengthen the capacities of women to trigger the mechanisms of repression of sexual harassment in Benin". Opportunity for the Executive Director of the NGO, Martin Vihoutou Assogba to launch an appeal to all professional women in public and private administrations and all student girls in Benin.

The objective of the project is to enable all actors and partners in the fight, to have convincing statistical data "on this scourge which poisons the lives of thousands of women and girls with a view to adequate actions for its reduction in our country". So, for six months (September 2020-February 2021), the project will cover the communes of Cotonou and Abomey-Calavi. It also aims to contribute to the reduction of the phenomenon of sexual harassment suffered by women and girls in Benin.. And in this perspective, various activities within the framework of the implementation of the project will be carried out, especially, the organization of four training sessions for the benefit of a hundred women and girls from public and private administrations in Cotonou as well as students from the University of Abomey-Calavi (Uac), on the mechanisms for triggering the repression of sexual harassment.

Likewise, Ong Alcrer has set up a mechanism for legal and psychological support for women and girls who are victims of sexual harassment in their work and study environment. For this purpose, Ong Alcrer appeals to all professional women in public and private administrations and all student girls in Benin, aged 18 at least, victims or witnesses of sexual harassment in their work or study environment or with specific knowledge on the subject, and invites them to complete the completely anonymous questionnaire and share it with their networks of friends, via the link https://ifelab.org/alcrer/ for the purpose of collecting the necessary and reliable information for the proper implementation of the project. Note that the project had the technical and financial support of the Embassy of Canada to Benin through the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (fcil).
