Zonal Phase of the Benin University Games 2024 : The given top

The University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC) was Saturday 31 August 2024, the scene of the launch of the 11th edition of the zonal phase of the Benin University Games (YUM). It was under the chairmanship of the Chief of Staff of the Minister of Sports, Crepin Okouolou and in the presence of the Director General of the Beninese Office of School and University Sport, Dr Victor Soumon Lawin, and other executives at various levels.

The top of the first phase of the 11th edition of the Benin University Games is officially given.

In his speech, Dr Victor Soumon Lawin urged teams to show fair play. He also reassured the players of the arrangements made by the OBSSU to ensure the smooth running of this zonal phase of the university games.. “As in previous editions, the Ministry of Sports and the Beninese Office of School and University Sports (OBSU), responsible for the organization, took all necessary measures to ensure the success of the event”, he reassured.

Proceeding to launch the competition, the Chief of Staff of the Minister of Sports, Crépin Okouolou first recalled the mission incumbent on the Ministry of Sports, that of revealing Benin through sport. The organization of these university games according to him, then enters the straight line of this mission. Ensuite, he invited the different teams to give the best of themselves in order to take part in the final phase.


The first results
At the men's football level, the opening match opposed the team from the Ecole Polytechnique d’Abomey-Calavi (EPAC) to that of the Faculty of Letters, LANGUAGES, Arts et Communication (FLLAC). At the end of the meeting, the FFLAC won by a score of 2-0.
In men's handball, facing the IT Training and Research Institute (IFRI), the FFLAC simply played its game by winning by the score of 32-3
The Faculty of Letters, LANGUAGES, Arts et Communication lost to the FAST team in men’s volleyball 3 sets to 0.
Note that the university entities are divided into five zones and challenge each other in five disciplines which are : football, basketballs, le hand-ball, Volleyball and athletics. This phase will take place from 31 August to 07 September 2024 in the 12 departments of our country.
