Malick Gomina to Civil Society on the request for rereading of the Electoral Code: “…no door is closed but…”

In Benin, rereading the Electoral Code in view of the general elections 2026 is a concern of civil society. In mobilizing political actors for this cause, MP Malick Seibou Gomina gives some advice.

As the general elections 2026 approaching Benin, the question of rereading the Electoral Code is becoming a major concern for actors in the socio-political microcosm. Civil society is trying to mobilize political actors for a rereading of this law.

During a virtual round table organized on 10 October 2024 he said about the think tank, in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation on electoral reforms and political perspectives in Benin, MP Malick Seibou Gomina does not find the approach bad. He asks civil society “to continue with its appeals to all actors from all camps”. He believes that in doing so, the message of civil society can get across.

He believes that what is desired is for the request of civil society to be heard by all camps in order to move towards what will be good for the country.. “I think that a priori, no door is closed, but that dialogue takes place and that some are not stigmatized”, he specifies. The former mayor of Djougou is sure that the different actors will find what is good for the Beninese and that Benin will continue its democratic experience as in the past by improving it..
