A delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has been staying since saturday 22 August 2020 in the Malian capital Bamako. Objective for the delegation led by former Nigerian head of state Goodluck Jonathan : negotiate with the junta for a thaw of the situation in the country.

After more than eight hours of discussions, no decision was made according to local media. Return to power of now former Malian head of state unlikely. The junta calls for a transition period of 3 years which does not seem to be to the liking of the delegation of the Cédeao. Negotiations continue on Monday with the same players.
We will have to wait for the report of the delegation led by Goodluck Jonathan and the meeting of heads of state of the member countries of the sub-regional organization for another decision-making. This meeting will be held on Wednesday 26 August 2020 by videoconference.
