The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, affirmed that the unanimity of the members of the Executive Committee of the African Football Confederation (CAF) to grant Morocco the honor of hosting the CAN-2025 African Cup of Nations constitutes a crowning achievement of the development process led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI for more than two decades in various fields.
In a statement to MAP following the meeting of the CAF Executive Committee, Wednesday in Cairo, M. Lekjaa stressed that this choice also confirms that Morocco is ready to host major sporting events in the best conditions..
He stated in this regard : “Aujourd’hui, the Morocco, unanimously African, without the slightest debate, has the honor of organizing the next edition of the African Cup of Nations, it is the crowning achievement of a formidable work carried out by a Great King. C’est aussi la meilleure récompense pour un peuple passionné de football”.
He continued that the organization of CAN-2025 in Morocco is a first step which will be followed by another, namely the bid to host the World Cup 2030 jointly with Spain and Portugal.
In this regard, M. Lakjaa a souligné que le Royaume fera de cet événement “un renouveau de la civilisation méditerranéenne entre le nord et le sud de la Méditerranée”, noting that the African continent will mobilize behind Morocco to win the bet, which is also an African bet.
The Kingdom of Morocco was unanimously designated host country for the 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN-2025), following the meeting of the members of the CAF Executive Committee, Wednesday in Cairo.
The Committee also entrusted the organization of CAN-2027 to Kenya, to Uganda and Tanzania, who submitted a joint application.
