Fight against drug trafficking in Benin : 4,7 tons of narcotics incinerated

The Government of Benin through the Ministry of Justice proceeded with the destruction of 4 tons 700 kilograms of drugs of which 613 Kg of cocaine and heroin, confiscated and sealed by criminal courts and whose judges have ordered their destruction. It was friday 30 July 2021 on the Ouèssè site in the municipality of Ouidah, département de l’Atlantique.

This destruction, which is a response to drug trafficking in Benin, is the culmination of the activities of the drug seal destruction commission. Magistrate Kpégounou certifies that confirmation texts for these products were made in approved laboratories before this incineration operation. "These are indeed narcotics", he confirms. A destruction that took place under the best environmental conditions and in accordance with the rules of the art.

For its part, the Chief of Staff of the Minister of Justice and Legislation, Gilbert Ulrich Togbonon confided that the incineration of these prohibited products is the execution of court decisions handed down by the Court for the repression of economic offenses and terrorism (I shout) and the Cotonou First Class Court of First Instance.

"These drugs were arrested during searches carried out either at the Port of Cotonou or at the Bernadin Gantin international airport in Cotonou. Those who committed these offenses have explained themselves to the competent courts, notably Criet, and today we are in the process of executing the decisions resulting from their conviction ", he said. He underlined that the nature of those convicted, are Beninese but also people of other nationalities who committed the acts of transporting narcotics, transport that the Beninese legislator sanctions.
