Shea: AGK and ACCF are committed to reducing the climate vulnerability of 7 500 collectors in Togo and Burkina Faso

The Global Shea Alliance (AGK) and the African Development Bank's African Climate Change Fund (BAD) want to strengthen the resilience of women shea nut collectors in Togo and Burkina Faso to climate change. This through a two-year project entitled " Towards climate-resilient shea communities in Togo and Burkina Faso " co-funded by the two organizations to more than 1,3 million USD.

The agreement signed between the two organizations concerns a pot of 996,700 USD and will be supplemented by the AGK of 400,000 USD to reduce the climate vulnerability of 7,500 women shea collectors and their communities (more than 30,000 people) in Togo and Burkina Faso. This will also increase the income generated by activities such as shea and beekeeping and by improving park management practices led by the beneficiary communities..

"This project in Togo and Burkina Faso will build community resilience and help address the root causes of gender inequalities and the impacts of climate change in the project area.. The fight against gender inequalities is at the heart of the fight against climate change in Africa. will declare Rita Effah, ACCF coordinator at AfDB.

Emphasizing the commitment of his organization to combat the impacts of climate change on shea women, Simballa Sylla, President of the AGK is delighted with this partnership which will strengthen the impact of his actions. "While the AGK is doing a lot to alleviate these problems and diversify the sources of income for women in shea, we are happy to get more support through this project and to work with the African Development Bank Group to provide responsive and gender-transformative solutions for climate resilience. “he confided.

The execution of the project "Towards climate-resilient shea communities in Togo and Burkina Faso" intends to build the capacities of the targets and provide them with equipment to increase the business acumen of women shea collectors and improve the capacity of their communities to restore and maintain shea parklands in Burkina Faso and Togo.
