Soaring prices of basic necessities : The government reassures

The authorities are not insensitive to the situation of the rise in the prices of consumer products that the Beninese have been facing for several weeks.. At the turn of an interview given earlier this week to our colleagues from the national channel, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alimatou Shadiya Assouman calms hearts while evoking the reasons for such a situation without forgetting the measures taken by the government for suitable solutions.

The cries of distress of Beninese citizens in the face of soaring prices for basic necessities do not fall on deaf ears. This can probably be said after the recent media release of the Minister of Industry and Trade. Indeed, during a recent interview with the Office of Radiodiffusion and Television of Benin (LOCATION), Alimatou Shadiya Assouman gave an overview of the news regarding the high cost of basic foodstuffs on the Beninese market. For the ministerial authority, this is a very worrying situation at the top of the state. Citing the reasons likely to be at the origin of the rise in the price of consumer goods, the minister in charge of trade points to the scarcity of rains during the great growing season. Added to this is the COVID-19 pandemic, the consequences of which have not spared the agriculture sector. As well- she emphasized the massive export of agricultural products which is one of the major reasons for the high price of food. In front of this situation, it reassures the populations and above all invites them to arm themselves with patience. " You have to be patient. The first rains have just settled. Demand from countries in the sub-region is very strong. But measures are being taken at the level of Agriculture to increase production. Together we will succeed ", she declared. As for the export of consumer goods, the government opted for a repressive measure. This has already resulted in the arrest of several tons of food from exporters by security agents, said Minister Alimatou Shadiya Assouman.
