Facebook, Messenger and Instagram victims of a global outage

Since this Tuesday 5 mars 2024, it is no longer possible to access the different Meta platforms, notably Facebook and Instagram, but also Threads and Messenger, the social network launched last summer in response to (formerly Twitter).

Meta “working on the subject”

On Facebook, users of the specialized site Downdetector complain of having been disconnected and not being able to receive the code as part of double authentication. On Instagram, it is not possible to refresh the news feed. Whatsapp, however, is not affected by this outage according to Tech’s findings.&Co.

On Twitter (X), Andy Stone, communications manager at Meta, confirmed the current outage: “We are aware that our users are having difficulty accessing our services. We are currently working on the subject” he explains.

On Twitter, many Internet users have reported these technical difficulties, often with humor. Difficulties logging into one's Facebook account have led to fears – wrongly – to certain regulars of the platform that they had been hacked.

The last major outage of services associated with Facebook dates back to May 2023, and concerned Messenger, group messaging, who was unavailable for over an hour. Meta also had to face a giant outage, affecting all of its services, in October 2021, pushing society to react. It had lasted almost six hours.
