The National Order of Dental Surgeons of Benin carried out a control mission on Thursday 07 avril 2022 in Cotonou. This striking operation made it possible to unmask several clandestine structures and practices which illegally practice the profession of dental surgery..
It was through Aïdjedo that the round began. Not far from the neighborhood police station, a jeweler of Senegalese origin makes dental prostheses completely illegally. Without any training in dental surgery, prosthetist or dentistry, he places gold or silver teeth. He goes so far as to cut his clients' teeth. In his shop, the control mission found rusty tools and medicines. Questioned, he tried to create a diversion and resistance. But thanks to the presence of the police, he and one of his collaborators were taken to the police station. If a clandestine service unit has been closed, there is talk of an injunction to put in order in Kouhounou or of a moratorium elsewhere according to the point made by the National Director of Public Health. Concerning the two people arrested “If the procedure follows its normal course, they will be brought before the prosecutor” suggested Louis-Jacques Martin-Corréa, Legal technical advisor to the Minister of Health, Benjamin Hounkpatin indicating : “The credo of this government is to provide quality care and quality people to the population.. This is why it was decided to get the bad apples out of the ranks of health professionals.. These people have now understood that we must no longer play around with the health of citizens, indicates the legal technical advisor to the Minister of Health”.
After the control mission of 26 mars 2021, the observation made on the ground by the national order of dental surgeons of Benin sufficiently demonstrates that indelicate people always play with the health of the Beninese. The president of the order is shocked but does not intend to let go. “We are not policemen. We are just an institution responsible for putting everything in order and we ask them to let health professionals, these people who are trained to practice the profession and serve them” informs Christiane Paraïso. D’autres sorties sont annoncées pour mener la même opération.
