January legislative elections 2023 : Three poles at war

Movement against opposition, UP the Renewal (UPR) against Republican Bloc (BR), Force Cauris for an Emerging Benin (FCBE) against the Democrats (LD) : here is what is at stake in the January legislative elections 2023.

Everything is ready for the January legislative elections 2023, The Democrats party (LD) having been saved in extremis by the Constitutional Court. But rather than being an election like that of 2019, this time, each of the major parties will have to fight two tough adversaries. The first issue of this election is quite naturally the duel, movement – opposition.

On one side there is the Union Progressive Le Renouveau (UPR) and Republican Bloc (BR) against all opposition parties. Indeed, the UPR and the BR are the emanation of the will of the President of the Republic who wanted to surround himself with two political groups to support his actions in the National Assembly and animate the political class. They were also the only parties to sit in parliament., which did not fail to arouse criticism.

The stated goal of the opposition is therefore to put an end to what they describe as a one-color parliament because, in reality, the laws and other decisions were taken unanimously by the members, which is paradoxical in a democratic regime. FCBE and Les Démocrates are therefore fighting the same fight.

On paper, the FCBE are unquestionably the largest opposition party. Proof, its Secretary General, Paul Hounkpè, bears the honorary title of Leader of the Opposition. What Democrats Don't Accept. In addition to being a duel between movers and opponents, the January elections 2023 offer the opportunity for everyone to prove that it is he who embodies the opposing camp to President Talon.

So there will be no mercy on the ground. This is all the more so since between the two blocks, resentments run deep. Most members and leaders of the LDs were first FCBE before the party leader, former president Yayi Boni throws in the towel to create Les Démocrates. Emptied of its essence, the FCBE party survived by occupying the place of the opposition which remained vacant following the tribulations suffered by, meanwhile, President Yayi and his followers. So it's time to fight it out and show all the people who is the real leader of the opposition..

On the side of the movement, unity in the face of the opposition is only a facade. Between the Progressive Union Renewal and the Republican Bloc, it's total war. The two political formations created by the Head of State no longer give each other gifts. Poaching, denigration, crocs-en-jambe… there are many maneuvers to dismantle the partner who has become an adversary. Moele Benin and UDBN will for their part try to demonstrate that they are far from being small parties.

The outcome of this fight between the three political poles bodes well for a sulphurous legislature because, even if the Head of State whistles the end of recess in the ranks of his supporters, it is not certain that they comply, knowing that the regime is at its last bend. On the opposition side, there is no appeasement to be hoped for especially if the juicy position of leader of the opposition escapes the FCBE.
