Presidential election 2021 in Benin : The CENA unveils the calendar

The CENA announces the color of the next presidential election. For this purpose, the president of the National and Autonomous Electoral Commission, Emmanuel Tiando made public this Monday 11 January, the electoral calendar.

The article 59 of the law 2019-43 of 15 November on the electoral code in the Republic of Benin provides that “The electoral calendar is made public by the President of the CENA, ninety days before polling day. It is published through the press and all appropriate channels”. It is in application of this law that the president of the National and Autonomous Electoral Commission, Emmanuel Tiando in the presence of representatives of political parties and other bodies of the Republic, effectively released the schedule for the April presidential election 2021. To believe it, the article 3 of the decree 2020-563 of 25 November 2020 adopted by the Council of Ministers provides that this calendar is drawn up by the CENA in consultation with the other institutions of the Republic involved in the organization of the poll. “At the end of these consultations, the CENA drew up the electoral calendar for the presidential 11 avril 2021 that we are pleased to make public during this meeting and then make available to all stakeholders in the electoral process as well as to national and international opinion for the sake of transparency”, he said before indicating that ” The publication of the electoral calendar thus marks the start of the electoral process which will lead us to, the 11 avril 2021, the first round of the presidential election and possibly the second round, the 9 May 2021″.

Note that the registration of declarations of candidacies will take place from 1 to 4 February 2021 and the publication of the final list of candidates will be effective from 22 at 23 February 2021.
