Education in Benin: Exit modern court and modern long

There are no more 4th and 3rd scientific or literary. This is what emerges from the circular note from the Minister of Secondary Education, technical and vocational training, dated October 1 2021.

The distribution of students by option is no longer relevant in colleges. The classes with the option "Modern Short" and "Modern Long" are now removed from the education system and the implementation of this decision comes into force from the start of the school year. 2021-2022. Learning in modern short and modern long is therefore a thing of the past.. Each secondary school learner will be assessed in all subjects in the program until they obtain their Secondary Study Certificate. The announcement of this decision was made through a note from the Minister of Secondary Education, technical and vocational training as of October 1 2021. Minister Yves Kouaro Chabi has in fact decided to apply Order No. 12 of 7 February 2020 fixing the conditions of passage, repetition and reorientation of learners in general secondary schools and colleges.

According to the article 4 of said decree, students must follow all subjects until obtaining their Undergraduate Study Certificate. There are therefore no more 4th and 3rd scientific or literary. Physical sciences, chemistry and technology, as well as the living language 2, especially Spanish or German will be taught to all learners from the 4th grade. Also in his note the Minister invited the departmental directors of secondary education, technical and vocational training as well as school heads to implement this decision.

However, it should be noted that this measure does not affect those who pass from 4th to 3rd on behalf of the school year 2021-2022.
