Degradation of Godomey-Calavi tracks: The plight of users continues

For several years, users of the Godomey-Calavi section, in particular motorcyclists, have suffered martyrdom in their movement.. Main reason, deterioration of the cycle path at the Godomey interchange. A situation that leads some to question the role of the authorities in charge of infrastructure.

If the first phase of asphalting is a reality in certain corners of the city of Cotonou with the redevelopment of the roads of several districts of the economic capital, one of the busiest roads linking this city to its neighbor Abomey-Calavi remains in an advanced state of degradation, thus causing great difficulty for road users. Indeed, just take the track reserved for cyclists and leading to the neighboring town of Abomey-Calavi to see the dented state of this very busy route. The cobblestones that have been laid on this road have formed unusual speed bumps for some time. “We suffer day to day by taking this road. It is a pity that the authorities have not done anything for years”, s’indigne Bruno T.

Benoît is also of the opinion and protests about the state of this ramp. "We really don't know how this lane became like this with a dozen speed bumps forming waves which not only slow down traffic but create damage to machinery, especially the cycle path which is at the level of the interchange., a real crab trap », he said while adding that “in the normal state of things, motorcyclists traveling to downtown Godomey and Calavi should not use the interchange overpass. But given the impracticable state of this road, users are forced, thus exposing themselves to crash discs”.

As almost all of the users of this traffic have indicated, the danger is experienced daily by taking this ramp. They are forced to face day and night the risk of accidents but also and above all the restriction of the life of motorcycles. Faced with this situation of high road insecurity, the reaction of the authorities is expected as soon as possible in order to get users out of their daily misadventures.

This is obviously what these people who use this traffic want.. “This situation has gone on for too long., since the end of the first regime and here we are soon in the second five-year term. Too bad, nothing has been done by the authorities. The town hall of Abomey-Calavi, the ministry in charge of infrastructure and transport, and even the management of infrastructures are insensitive to our tears. It is urgent that they intervene and redevelop this road which serves many Beninese”, said Leontine. For Jacques, it is inconceivable that the government puts so much energy into the construction of the roads, “but that one has been left in this sorry state for years”. However, he hopes that "the authorities will come to take stock and think about the rehabilitation of this road for the good of all". The patience of the citizens having reached the peak, the reaction of the authorities in charge of infrastructure and transport is awaited.
