Pregnant patient dies at Goho hospital: The victim's family files a complaint

Gone to give birth, Lady Florence Akpatcho died with the child at Goho Hospital in Abomey before receiving treatment. Husband's brother sues in court for negligence leading to death of pregnant woman and her baby.

Feeling the signs of childbirth approaching, Florence Akpatcho went to the medical center (CM) of Bohicon for deliverance friday 16 October 2020. But the real mission was to initiate talks with a view to reconciliation between the two personalities who have been in open conflict for years., and according to his brother-in-law Eric Agonvonon, she was well taken care of but, given the situation, she was evacuated by ambulance to the Goho hospital in Abomey where she was to undergo a caesarean section.

“When we arrived in Goho, the midwives on duty inform us that there is no gynecologist present”, writes Eric Agonvonon in the complaint he filed with the prosecutor and of which Gaskiyani Info obtained a copy. He pursues: “It was then that one of the midwives told us that she had just called the gynecologist on duty and that he was on his way but that we had better go to the Mougnon area hospital where a gynecologist would be present. The ambulance is no longer there, we took the woman in our vehicle and we went to Mougnon and still no gynecologist. The midwife of Mougnon in turn suggests that we go to Zoungo, located next to the Court of Abomey and we go there again immediately. On the way to Zoungo by our calls we get the number of the director of CHD Goho to whom we complained, this is how he calls back the Zoungo staff to ask that we return to Goho and that the operating theater would already be ready before our arrival. »

Despite these assurances, highlight family members, it took almost 30 minutes before a surgeon and a “contingent of midwives” come to the bedside of their already dying patient. But it was already too late. She passed away when a family member went to buy the first drugs prescribed by the doctor..

Contacted by phone to get his version of the facts, the director of the Goho hospital preferred an interview at a time when his schedule will allow him.

For its part, the midwife of the health center who initially received the patient nevertheless confirmed that she was admitted for labor and that she was referred to the Departmental Hospital of Abomey.
