Municipalities of Benin : Time for trouble?

Municipalities of Benin : Time for trouble?

After the series of Executive Secretaries (SE), it's the turn of the municipal councilors to get into it. Rejection of activity report here, split and request to resign elsewhere.

No more honeymoon between the municipal councilors? The question is now tormenting people's minds with the confusion observed recently within the municipal councils. It was difficult for the town hall of Sô Ava to re-elect a new councilor after the departure of Jean Méjor Zannou to the National Assembly. In Djidja it was the same. Currently, it is the town of Copargo that is making the headlines. Nine councilors from the said locality demand the departure of Mayor Ignace Ouorou and his deputies. They made it known through a note addressed to the prefect of Donga. In correspondence addressed to the supervisory authority, they demand the convening of a vote of no confidence against the mayor of the Commune of Copargo and his deputies.

In the 24th electoral district, it also growls in the Zou and more precisely in Zangnanado. Municipal councilors are unhappy with the management of their mayor, Justin Kanninkpo. They demonstrated it on Tuesday 25 avril 2023 through the rejection of its activity report during the 2nd ordinary session of the current year.

On 14 councilors present, dix (10) voted against this report, three (03) abstained and alone, the mayor voted for said report. Mayor Justin Kanninkpo is accused of having disseminated the information on social networks without the advice of the council and unilateral decision-making. Just for that, some will say, but it's serious enough to arouse rebellion among dissidents.. What could justify this situation in Zangnanado, we wonder? ? Why now and the grievances against Mayor Justin Kanninkpo are enough ? This insofar as the commune of Zangnanado is controlled in the majority by the advisers of the Progressive Union the Renewal. What would be the fate of mayors in difficulty? Whose turn or which town hall is on the political discontent grid? These are other questions that will be clarified in the coming months..
