Benign: Joël Aivo remanded in custody

One of the opponents of the Talon regime, Professor Frédéric Joël Aivo was arrested and placed under arrest warrant after his hearing with the special prosecutor of the Court for the Repression of Economic Infractions and Terrorism for breach of security and money laundering. His trial is scheduled for the 15 July 2021.

"Light will be shed on the direct authors and indirect actors of these disturbances so that they can answer for their actions" says the President of the Republic, Patrice Talon the 14 avril 2021. This was after going to the bedside of members of the defense and security forces injured during the last pre-election protests. So, the news circulating in the country rhymes with the prosecution and arrests of all the alleged perpetrators, instigators or accomplices of the violent demonstrations recorded before the Sunday poll 11 avril 2021.

Indeed, as he left school at Abomey Calavi University, Thursday 15 avril,  the academic Frédéric Joël Aivo was intercepted by the Republican police near Godomey-Togoudo informs the communication cell of the candidate of the Front for the Restoration of Democracy. A After his presentation to the special prosecutor of the Court for the Repression of Economic Infractions and Terrorism, Friday 16 avril, he is provisionally imprisoned for reasons of endangering the security of the State and money laundering. His trial is scheduled for the 15 July 2021. Three other people were also arrested in the same context.

Note that the detention of Joël Aïvo comes after that of former minister Reckya Madougou arrested on 03 mars 2021. Beninese justice also accuses him of terrorist financing.
