Terrorist attacks in Benin : How to deal with attackers ?

Terrorists hit Benin again. This time, the attack occurred on the night of 2 at 3 May 2023 in Banikoara by unidentified men. There are three dead, including one person with their throat slit.. 24 hours earlier, during the night of Monday 1st to Tuesday 02 May 2023 around 22 hours 30 minutes on a farm located in the village of Kaobagou in Kérou. The results of the attack according to the local press, reports 08 deaths exclusively of male civilians and several missing.

It is true that for several months, Benin is suffering attacks from suspected terrorists but this is the first time that the attackers have adopted this method of killing, that of slaughtering. Previously, their activities were limited to the outskirts of the Pendjari national park where, since, protective measures have been strengthened by the State. They started with attacks on public buildings such as police stations and schools or even army posts.. These last two attacks further south, show the determination of these unidentified armed individuals to sow chaos as they are already doing in Mali, in Burkina and Niger. And, there is an escalation in violence with targets, civilians. As killings increase in northern Benin, the population is overcome by emotion and panic sets in a little more with each announcement of attacks.

To strengthen the response capacity of the defense forces and thus better protect the Beninese, the government has launched a recruitment process in the army while equipping itself with adequate weapons to face this evil. More, on note, more and more, a fear among young people of being recruited into the army. Or, refusing to join the army for fear of terrorists amounts to an ostrich policy which closes its eyes believing it is thus escaping danger. On another side, regardless of the quality of their training, the military and police cannot alone face the threat without the collaboration of the populations. Benin is a small country in which the arrival of new people does not go unnoticed.
