Abdel Rahman Ouorou Barè, President of the National Paralympic Committee of Benin : “Raise public awareness… so that children with disabilities…”

As part of its program of activities, the National Paralympic Committee of Benin (CNP-Benin) raided the city of Kobourou. In this interview given to the local press, President Abdel Rahman Ouorou Barè tells us about it. Read instead !!!

Mr President, CNP-Benin was in northern Benin last week as part of a para sport activity, what can we learn from it ?

Indeed the National Paralympic Committee of Benin was in Parakou for a multi-part project. It is : training Parakou athletes and coaches in goalball, a powerlifting and a basketball, detecting new athletes in goalball, powerlifting and basketball, and, the goalball demonstration, powerlifting and basketball.

This activity, like the other activities implemented by the CNP Benin, aims to raise awareness among the populations of this city, local authorities, PE teachers and disabled people themselves on sport as a RIGHT so that disabled children are no longer victims of exemptions in schools and colleges. Furthermore, this activity also aimed to raise awareness among the Parakou authorities of the fact that no one (including people with disabilities) not be left behind (agenda 2030 des ODD). It also aimed to strengthen the capacities of coaches and athletes in Paralympic sports in terms of rules.. Finally, the release of Parakou aimed to find new athletes in order to meet the requirements of international competitions and especially the Paris Paralympic Games. 2024.

What are your feelings ?

I would like here to thank God. You know that for weeks the North of our country has been heavily drenched by rain. That day, not a single drop of water came down to endanger this activity. It was only at the end that the rain returned. Then my thanks go to the disabled athletes and the coaches of this city who came out in large numbers to contribute accordingly to this activity.. The CNP Benin was able to detect several potential powerlifting athletes and several visually impaired women athletes to set up a goalball team in Parakou.

A word to conclude this interview

We can never say it enough, sport is a right and this right has enormous health benefits, physical and mental well-being, to fight against a sedentary lifestyle, of self-confidence, of empowerment, of self-esteem, to fight against prejudices and sociological constraints, improving the quality of life and belonging to the Nation. For this reason I would like, thank the CIP (International Paralympic Committee) for financing this project.

I would like to take advantage of this forum to announce an activity that the CNP will organize in Savalou in order to detect female athletes with funding from the FNDAJSL and another sub-regional activity that we intend to organize in Benin with Ivory Coast., Niger, Burkina Faso and Togo as part of preparations for the Paris Paralympic Games 2024.

On this sub-regional activity, I would like to say thank you to the personalities of this country who have already agreed in principle to accompany us there. I would like to mention the president of the Beninese Football Federation and that of the Handball Federation. At the appropriate time you will have more information on these two activities.

I would like to say thank you to the government of Benin through the Ministry of Sports for the constant effort of social inclusion of people with disabilities. I would like to invite the private sector through commercial companies to contribute to the challenges of sustainable development and to give meaning to their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).
