To Agoué : The sea dictates its law

The district of Agoué located in the town of Grand Popo is threatened by the advancing sea. She is now less than 100 m from the Cotonou HIlacondji Interstate road.

The sea waves dictate their Agoué law by advancing with great strides without leaving anything in their path. On the beautiful beach of the Agoué canal, the sun is at its zenith. The star caresses impetuous waves that crash against the branches of the coconut groves in the waters of a seemingly peaceful sea. But behind this idyllic setting, hides a sad sight : for nearly a few days the Atlantic Ocean has been advancing, growling, skimming the walls, habitations, and vegetation in its path.

This situation creates a psychosis within the populations of this district of the commune of Grand Popo. Although there was no loss of life, it should be noted significant property damage motels,  other constructions and flooded houses.

According to the first manager of Agoué, Rosine Romao, contacted by Hope Info, it's tuesday 2 last November that the situation took a different turn. “The sea is 90m from the interstate road. All the populations are under the drama. They see their shelters destroyed by the waves of the sea without being able to do anything. The North Pole house in Agoué is already under the sea,” she said before continuing, “I have already gone to see the victims to appease them.. But this is not enough. The local authorities can do nothing about this advance of the sea”.

This is why it is counting on the current project initiated by President Patrice Talon to avoid the deluge "There is a project in progress. We have faith that the execution of this project will stem the tragedy and bring relief to the populations”, she said.
